Big Brother slammed again.. May 24, 2007

First  they were slammed for having a task with electronic babies knowing one of the housemates had lost a baby 18 months earlier.  I completely agree with this, it should never have happened.  You have to question if it was done just to see the reaction from the housemate.

This time a housemates father has passed away and the housemate will not be told until she leaves the house.  Apparently it was her fathers dying wish for her not to be told until she left the house so that she could enjoy the experience.  Emma had apparently been estranged from her father for six years and had recently been in conact via txt messaging.

Should Big Brother force the family to tell her?  Is it the family’s right to decide when to tell her?  She did after all go into the house knowing her father was close to death..  Big brother are slammed for not telling her yet if they did tell her they would also be accused of telling her to make the show more interesting.. they cant really win in this situation.

On another note Nick and Rebecca are annoying the hell out of me..  Both of them cannot accept that every sinlge person in the world does not love them…. Get over it!

Two optometrists, two very different opinions.. May 24, 2007

After realising my eye sight seemed to be deteriorating when driving at night I went to see an optometrist at OPSM.  She covered my left eye whilst testing the right and it was then I realised everything was a blur. She came to the conclusion I had perfect vision.  After querying the difference in my vision and the fact I had issues seeing at night she then decided to prescribe glasses with a both sides slight magnified and was looking at giving me bi-focals.. I had little faith in this lady..

So I made an appointment and saw a different optometrist tonight, she actually listened, did the same tests and a few extras and came to the conclusion that I was short sighted and a slight stigmitism in my right eye. She made me try on the weird looking glasses when they test the lenses (alek thought it was hilarious) and I could really tell the difference.  The previous lady didnt even do this, just tried to sell me the glasses before checking if the lenses made any difference.

I started looking at the cheap ones and ended up with Vogue but i’m really happy with how they look.  After discounts and private health insurance I will only be out of pocket by $240 from $585.

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve been able to connect to the internet.  I’ve kinda kept an “offline” blog so you can keep track of my super exciting life…

27/4/07 This day was an absolute shocker.  We were having our work night out in the city.  Everyone was showering, changing and preparing whilst I was still dealing with clients on the phone. And just in case one of my clients ever stumbles across this.. I love you all!! We had a bus waiting outside and headed in to Phillips Foot at the Rocks.  If you haven’t been there it’s a place where you select raw meat and cook your own.  It was a pretty cool experience, like most BBQ’s I guess the guys stood around the BBQ whilst the girls prepared the salads and things.  After that we headed to our surprise location which turned out to be the ice bar, Minus 5.  We got our huge jackets, gloves and if you’re wearing open toed shoes they give you plastic socks (yes, it is as uncomfortable as it sounds) and ugh boots.  There are ice sculptures, ice glasses, tables etc.  There is a 30 minute time limit and you wear a buzzer so you know when you should leave.  Ours didn’t go off and we eventually got too cold to stay in there.  It‘s not something you would do on a regular occasion (also very expensive) but it was a great experience.  Got to sleep about 2.30 and was up for football at 7.

30-31/4/07 The horror working day of Friday continued, I’ve been working in commercial insurance for a whole 5 months and I’m feeling a tad bit overwhelmed by the whole thing and have contemplated a career change.  I’m so busy that it’s hard to learn and take it all in at the same time!

1/5/07 HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!! Today I’m 27…. Nobody seemed to get the email where I decided I wasn’t having this birthday. As I walked through the office every single person said happy birthday so it’s a little hard to forget! We had morning tea as we do for everyone’s birthday as well as every Friday.

5/5/07  My friend from Perth is staying in the city for a week.  We met up at Town Hall at 8pm.  Yes that means I had to make my way into the city all on my own!!  So I get to the train station and see bus signs everywhere, I approach the train guy behind the glass and ask him how I get to the city, he had a silly kinda cute grin on his face and he could obviously see how clueless I was and proceeded to give me directions. Trip on the bus went to plan and I didn’t have to pay which is a bonus.  I get to Central and need to find a train to Town Hall.  There are two.. one that was leaving in 13 mins and one leaving in 2 mins. As the first train pulls in I jump on.  We sit and wait.. people start looking at each other as train guards walk through the carriages. Then we are told a window is missing so we need to move to the next carriage as they are leaving that one behind so about ten of us get up and move.  Still sitting there when the later train pulls in.  I looked at the people around me and we all decide to swap trains.. the doors close on and both trains pull away… then we stop… to make way for the one we had just left!!!!  I met up with Helen at Town Hall, I received my first birthday present!! Wahoo!  We head to Darling Harbour, grabbed something to eat and went in search for the Cargo Bar, I think between us we called 5 people trying to work out where it was.  We have a drink  and meet up with another girl from Perth, she was so hyperactive but a great girl who kept us entertained.  We drank some more, talked some more. Started to feel a little drunk.    We then thought it was a good idea to head to the Rocks.. On the way there we run into some guys we met earlier on and we decide to have a drink at the Slip Inn. (yes where Princess Mary met whats his name, but no prince charming was there for me!)  Actually the place was pretty quiet, the guys were boring so we headed to The Rocks.  We hit the observer, we thought we had too much to drink until we saw the piss heads there! I have never seen so many guys high 5 people as well as the guy that continually hugged the bouncer who didn’t seem to mind. The same guy danced around with bar stools for a while.  On the way out we hugged a Steve (from Jerry Springer) look-a-like.  About 3am we head to Pancakes on the Rocks which was a plan from the beginning of the night.  By this time though we were feeling a bit ill.  I chose chocolate pancakes with choc syrup, icecream and strawberries.  Helen chose the pancakes with eggs, bacon and sausages. They were great, but it was so weird, the place was full of people but only two other groups looked like they had been out for the night.  What the hell were the rest of them doing up at 4am eating pancakes??? We then decide it was a good idea to walk back to the hotel at Darling Harbour to get some fresh air and hopefully feel a little better.  It was a great night!  Knowing I have a train and bus to catch I go to sleep praying I won’t feel too sick in the morning.

7/5/07 Certain people on big brother are annoying the crap out of me… but yes I continue to watch it.  I love seeing the different relationships and seeing how people get along.  8/5/07 I got a call from Alek’s school advising I need to pick him up as they suspected he had a fracture or broken his arm playing football at lunch. I dropped everything and left work.. part of the bonus of working within 5 minutes of work.  Took him off to emergency, 2 hours and 3 xrays later and he left in a sling and with soft tissue damage.  No break, no fracture.. yay!  He’s excited the doctor told him he could wear the sling to school tomorrow.

11/5/07 Happy Birthday Jas!!  Ok she won’t see this but it had to be said.  I gave her a call and it  appears she received a shit load more for her birthday then I did.  Ripped off!    Work was ok, the week ended better than it had started. What have I learnt? Never ever sign a contract without reading it, if it mentions insurance it’s probably a wise idea to seek the advice of your insurance broker and solicitor.  Sure they cost a lot but it could save you hundreds of thousands in the long run.  One company is up for a minimum of $250,000 as they signed a contract stating they would be held responsible for anything that may happen at a particular event.  Insurance will not cover it because of the contract that was signed.   Although it wouldn’t have helped in the situation above,  It pays to read the wording and find out what type of policy you have.  The consumer should take some responsibility when purchasing a product.  It also pays to have an insurance broker.

13/5/07 We’ve heard the term.. it fell off the back of a truck..  Well some members of my family know the term well not because they have received stolen goods.  Yesterday my Mum and I picked up our new beds.  It all went well (including reversing the trailer up to the dock.. don’t believe the two guys standing by laughing, I got them back when they tried to stick a mirror in their car that wouldn’t fit.)  My mum and brother dropped off my boxes and they were on their way back to my mums. Later my mum phones to tell me she now only has one bedside table… the other flew off the trailer on the M4.  By the time they could turn around someone had picked it up and driven off leaving the packaging behind. My brother, James was dropping off a TV unit he had given me.. When he got here he told me I couldn’t have it.  It fell of the trailer and was now in many pieces. Someone else I know was moving a trailer full of furniture when a large bookcase fell off the trailer.  They were all very lucky no one was hurt.  I have never dropped anything from a trailer but I am often reminded of the time I drove off with my youngest brother Greg half in the car.  He has learnt his lesson and now gets in the car a bit faster! I set up my new bedroom suite and it’s great.  I finally feel like I have a grown up room with matching furniture.
